Duration of Studies in the Russian higher educational institutes:

In Russia, the duration of study depends on the faculty, as well as the medium of instruction chosen by the student. Incase of the medium of instruction being Russian, the student would have to undergo an academic year of 10 months in the preparatory faculty before starting the main course. All graduate medical courses are for 6 years, while the bachelor's degree in Engineering is for 4 years. All post graduation courses in medicine are for 3 years and the masters courses in engineering are for 2 years.

Students who opt for the English medium department are not required to undergo the one year preparatory faculty in the Russian language prior to starting the main course.

Students, studying in both the medium of instruction have to undergo one year of internship. Post Graduate studies in medicine are also now available, in some universities, in the English medium, after a crash course of 2-3 months in conversational Russian language.

For all the students who have not opted for the English language as a medium of instruction, an admission the preparatory faculty in the Russian language is required in the first year. This is where the knowledge of the Russian language is provided along with all the other technical subjects concerned with the final education.

The students study in the faculty for one academic year lasting 8-10 months. On successful completion of the course, the students are awarded a certificate of completion of the course after which they could either continue their education at the same University or transfer themselves to any other University of their choice. Upon successful completion of the course, the students are given a "Diploma" (Degree) in their specialization.
